In Revelation 3:15-16 Jesus told the Laodicean Church that he wanted them to be hot or cold. If they were lukewarm he would spit or vomit them out of his mouth. I always heard this taught to mean that Jesus wanted you on fire(hot) for him, or he wanted you to be a rank sinner(cold), but he just didn't want you to be lukewarm or in-between. Using this logic, it seems as if Jesus would prefer you to be a rank sinner, more than a nominal Christian. Let's take another look.
Have you ever tasted a drink expecting it to be hot and it was cool? Have you ever tasted a drink thinking it to be cold and it was warm? We've all had that kind of experience. What did you do? If you were not in a public or social setting, you probably spit that drink out. Why? It didn't taste right. The temperature of the drink affected it's flavor. The drink was not being what it was supposed to be! I trust you see my point.
If you are supposed to be a "hot" cup of coffee, than be that! If you're supposed to be a "cold" glass of soda, than be that! Don't be something that you're not supposed to be and lose your flavor! You are unique. Be what Jesus has called you to be and not distastefully "lukewarm." God's best be yours!
