Have You Checked Your Glasses Lately?

7/30/2004

God has created all of us to be unique and special. None of us are exactly alike. This means that all of us don't see things the exact same way, and that's not a bad thing. This is evidenced by the four writers of the gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all record the same basic story. Each one because of his unique perspective emphasizes some things different than the others, but the outcome is still the fact that God loved us, and sent Jesus to set us free from sin and it's adverse effects on mankind! We can be Born-Again, healed, and have sound, clear thinking minds. These truths are found in all of the Gospels, as well as in the letters of Paul, John, James and Peter.

There are some things that can adversely affect the way we view things in life. Jesus said in Matthew 24:10 that in the last days "many would be offended." Being offended can cause us to see everything through a false perspective. Jesus said in verse 11 that offended people are candidates for deception. If I am deceived, than I will see and hear things from a false, unstable foundation. It's then that "my opinion" or "my views" can become distorted.

If I'm offended, I can easily develop the mindset that people don't like me, or have something against me. I can get defensive about even some nice things that people say to me. It's an unholy cycle that we will speak more about as the weeks go by. Let's work at keeping our glasses "unfogged" by the cloud of offense. Have a great week!
