Word For the Week

Who's Driving Your Spiritual Car?

9/3/2004

In recent weeks I have been stuck on the subject of indifference and indecision. This week I want to look at what is the source of that hesitation and indecision.

James 1:6 speaks of the person who is asking God for wisdom. It says that the person must "ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." The word "driven" jumped out at me the other day. The driver of a vehicle is the one who controls where that vehicle is going. James has just said that the "wind" is the driver of the wavering, undecided, hesitant person. My wavering can turn the control of my spiritual direction over to a source that does not have my best interests at heart. Allow me to go further with this.

What "wind" is directing your decisions? What "wind" is driving your spiritual car? It may seem silly, but Jesus compared the activity of the spirit realm to the moving of the wind in John 3:8. I believe that the "driver" of the wavering person is an evil spirit who is attempting to cause a spiritual car wreck in our lives! Much more can be said of this. Don't allow a demonic spirit to steer your life in a direction apart from the will of God! As I've been saying in the last two teachings, let's be people of resolve and decision! Have a great week!
