In Acts 24:16, the apostle Paul says, "And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men." It is obvious that Paul saw the value and importance of keeping and maintaining a clear conscience. It was necessary to do this so he could complete his God-given assignment without the burden of condemnation weighing him down. He also recognized that it required some diligence to do this. Let's look!
He said that he had to "exercise" himself to keep a clear conscience. Let's be real, exercising takes discipline and commitment. If you set out to lose weight through an exercise program, you must be faithful and diligent to do that exercise program or you will not get the results that you desire. In like manner, I must continue to "work out" my love walk to keep myself from getting sloppy and allowing my flesh to dominate my life through offense and a lack of discipline over potential hurts directed to steer me off course.
Next week we will look at this passage more closely. Until then, have a great "clear conscience" week!
