Titus 2:11-12 tells us, "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world." Grace is an awesome treasure and gift from the Father to His children. It is often defined as unmerited favor. It can also be defined as God's willingness to show forth his power for us when the need for His help arises in our lives! We are saved by grace, we are kept by grace, and that grace also provides forgiveness when we miss the mark and sin. Thank God for his mercy and His grace!
One aspect of grace that doesn't get much attention is mentioned in the above scripture from Titus. Grace is also a teacher. It does not teach us to live lives where we plan on sinning with the knowledge that grace will "cover" for us. On the contrary, grace teaches us to live lives where we are empowered to deny sin's allure and conquer temptation! Grace really does teach us and strengthen us to live a life of holiness! No, grace is not an excuse for sin, it is the remedy for sin! Have a great week!
