Storms Respond to Faith

6/19/2005

Last week we looked at Jesus and his disciples launching out in Luke 8:22-25 to go to the "other side of the lake." We also saw that as the disciples obeyed Jesus, a major storm arose with the purpose of stopping their journey and sinking their boat! As Jesus was sleeping during the storm, the disciples awoke him and he spoke to the storm. His words put a stop to the chaos that the storm had created! Peace and order were restored. Jesus then looked at the disciples and said, "Where is your faith?"

The storms of life that we encounter do not back off because we complain about them. They certainly do not respond to our fear of them. The storms of life will respond to our words of faith spoken fearlessly to them! In Mark 4:39, his account of this story has Jesus saying, "Peace, be still" to the storm. An accurate paraphrase of those words would be, "Storm, I have more authority than the chaos that you have created. Shut up, and get back in order! I don't want to hear from you again!" When you study the words Jesus used here, he was actually putting the earth back in order. He subdued the earth as Genesis 1:28 commanded man to do!

We can put things that are "out of order" in our lives, back in order with our fearless words of faith! Have a great Father's Day and a great week!
