Submitting To Authority

7/27/2005

To some, this is a very unpopular subject. In the day we live in, many people have developed a low regard for parental authority, governmental authority as well as spiritual authority. While I'm certainly aware that there have been abuses of authority in every realm of life, the Word of God still tells us to submit to and respect the God ordained authorities He has placed in our lives. Romans 13:1-2 says, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation." To put it bluntly, if I don't submit to the God ordained authorities in my life, I'm asking for trouble and I'm going to find it!

While deceivers do exist, I believe that most Christian people can discern who the real godly authorities are in their lives. Plainly stated, every government leader is not corrupt! All preachers are not money-grubbing, power hungry fools! All Catholic priests do not molest children! All the priests that I've known are godly men! Parents who practice disciplining their kids are not all child abusers. The devil has amplified all the different scandals in politics, families and the church to keep people fearful of respecting and submitting to the proper authorities in their lives. This must stop! The purpose of the deception is plainly stated in the verse we quoted from Romans, resisting authorities will bring damnation upon ourselves! That is not something we want!!

Let's all keep the right attitude toward the authorities that God has placed in our lives. The benefits far outweigh the problems. Have a great week!
