Stay Out of the Ditch

8/30/2005

In Matthew 15:14 Jesus speaks of the offended Pharisees and how they reacted to his teaching. He says, "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." These were the religious leaders of the day that Jesus is calling "blind leaders". Obviously, there was something they were not seeing for Jesus to call them blind. I believe it was the fact that the Pharisees were easily offended.

Offense will cause a deceptive blindness to begin to take root in any life and cause one's perception to become clouded. You can't see things clearly in that condition. Jesus said this person will wind up in the ditch. The deceptive part about being in the ditch is that both the road and the ditch are going in the same direction, headed toward the same destiny. The main problem is that "ditch traveling" is much more dangerous than staying on the road that you are supposed to travel on! You can avoid all the obstacles and junk that is in the ditch by keeping yourself from being offended. Have a great week!
