Unbelief, A Bad Example

9/26/2006

Hebrews 4:11 says, "Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." The writer is referring back to how the people of Israel did not enter into their "promised land" as a result of being in the state of unbelief. He warns us not to follow their example. There is for us a promised land to enter. Although Heaven will be wonderful, it is not our promised land. There were enemies in the promised land that Israel had to fight, we have no enemies to fight in heaven. They all are very nice people up there!! Our promised land is what the Scriptures say belong to us because we are born again children of God! To possess those things, we often need to fight the good fight of faith and drive out the enemies of fear, doubt and unbelief.

Unbelief comes in various forms. The type of unbelief that caused Israel to not enter their promised land is actually blatant disobedience. The kind of disobedience that has a clear knowledge of what the will of God says and still refuses to believe and obey it. This is why the writer of Hebrews is giving us a stern warning about following that same example of disobedient unbelief. It's results are very damaging to all aspects of our lives.

Let's all be sure to follow faith, grace, hope and love. These are things that will never cause us to fail. Have a great week.
